McCain hearing continued

Thursday’s mitigating factors hearing in Dawson County District Court for former Gothenburg resident Eric McCain, has been continued.

McCain, 43, originally pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but later pleaded to first-degree murder to drop a weapon charge for the shooting death of Gothenburg Police Sgt. Glenn Haas in July 1990.

McCain was later convicted for first-degree murder.

The hearing Thursday was for District Judge Donald Rowlands of North Platte to listen to testimony and accept evidence as he considers mitigating factors in McCain’s case.
