Mentoring said to stay with kids all their lives

State TeamMates program quarter century old.

To Maureen Lariviere, mentoring a child is one of the most rewarding things a person can do.

“The time you give will impact their lives positively and will remain with them forever,” said Lariviere, a TeamMates board member, who started mentoring when the program began locally in 2001.

TeamMates is an organization that partners with school districts and communities to provide support and encouragement from mentors to students.

Local TeamMates coordinator Lynnette Stevens said the goal is for mentees to develop safe, positive relationships with their mentors and for those matches to last through high school graduation.
