Injured hawk rescued

Patty Egenberger and her brother were driving to Egenberger’s home in rural Brady when they spotted something unusual in the middle of a county road.

“We had watched three little raccoons go across the road and nearly had to stop and then saw something white a short ways ahead,” Egenberger said.

Her brother, Jim Gschwind of Fort Collins, CO, got out of the car to investigate and identified the bird as a dead hawk. Egenberger said he guessed it had been hit by a car so he wanted to get it off the road.

When Gschwind bent down to pick it up, Egenberger said he said: “Oh no. It’s still alive. It opened its eyes and looked at me.”
