Memorial Day program

Gothenburg American Legion Post 64 will host a Memorial Day service on Monday, May 29. The service will begin at 10 a.m. at the Gothenburg Cemetery. The Master of Ceremonies for this year’s event will be Dean Kugler. The Monday program will get underway with the invocation by Pastor Jeff Cottingham, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Pastor Cottingham. GHS student Maddie Daup will lead the singing of the National Anthem. Highlighting the program will be guest speaker Curt Carskadon, who will share about the history of the local cemeteries.

Following Carskadon’s remarks, the wreath bearers will decorate the grave. Doing those honors this year will be Steve Hecox—representing the American Legion, Bill Franzen—representing the VFW, Faye Kniss—representing the Legion Auxiliary, and Donna McConnell—representing the VFW Auxiliary.

The Gothenburg Honor Guard will present the salute and taps, and the service will conclude with closing remarks from Kugler.

The program is sponsored by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this special tribute in honor of those who have served our country.
