Swede girls win third straight Ogallala crown
Four gold medal performances led to a nine-point win for Gothenburg Thursday at the Ed Moore Invitational at Ogallala.
The Swedes scored 97 points en route to their third straight Ogallala invitational crown. Perkins County was the runner-up with 88.
“We really had some individual outstanding performances,” Swede coach Steve Reeves said. “Emily Max, Ali Abramson and Joslyn Oliver did an outstanding job. They’ve been multi-event stalwarts for us.”
Max was a double winner capturing the 100-meter high hurdles and the 300 intermediates.
Oliver tied her best in the high jump while winning at 5-4. “She’s battling a little injury problem but she kept competing,” he said.
Abramson was runner-up in both the distance races—1600 and 3200.
“Ali had been ill the week before but she always competes hard,” Reeves said.
Freshman Jacey Wiggins won the long jump, but Reeves said he erred by having her compete at the meet on the junior varsity team. The Swedes won four of the six long jump medals.
Oliver added a second place finish in the triple jump and Hanna Wolf took silver in the 800.
“It was a good meet overall for us,” Reeves said. “We’re battling some injury problems with some girls. We probably would have won the meet rather handily had we had everybody healthy. But that’s the way it works. You have to deal with that.”
Gothenburg travels to the Broken Bow Invitational Friday with a start time of 2:30 p.m.
