Brady students attend leadership conference

On Oct. 18, the District 10 FCCLA Leadership Conference took place at the South Campus of the North Platte Community College. The schools in attendance were Brady, Callaway, Cozad, Maxwell, Mullen, Overton, and Thedford. Brady was represented by 23 members and their chapter advisor, Mrs. Koch.

The morning activities included a welcome from the representative of the college and the installation of officers. Abi Franzen represents Brady this year as the district representation officer. Following the installation, Maxwell presented a slideshow from National Leadership Conference, which was held in Nashville, Tenn., in July.

This year, FCCLA members participated in community service projects. Each school was assigned one to two community service organizations to volunteer in. Brady assisted at the Historical Museum. While there, students assisted volunteer staff with cleaning the houses and the church, that were in need after the summer months of touring. Several students assisted in the blacksmith shop by helping lay a new brick floor.

The state officer team and state peer officer team lead break-out sessions for the members in the afternoon. All chapters participated in the Quiz Bowl, creed speaking, elevator speaking, bucket contest, poster contest and public service announcement contest. Results for Brady were: 2nd place in Quiz Bowl, 3rd place in Bucket Challenge, and 3rd place in Creed Speaking (Falon Hatch).
