Perkins Co. too much for girls

GRANT—With a young team of girls who have little varsity experience, there’s no player or even two who can rally the troops when things go wrong.

That’s something that comes from understanding every facet of the game, says Gothenburg girls coach Tim Peterson.

It might come to the Swedes yet this season, Peterson hopes, as the girls gain confidence.

It’s what Gothenburg lacked at Grant Saturday night as the Lady Plainsmen downed the Swedes 49-39.

“We need somebody who knows that the same kind of intensity is necessary in the third quarter as it is in the first,” Peterson said.

Gothenburg led Perkins County 6-5 at the end of the first period.

“It wasn’t one of our best second quarters,” Peterson said, “but we were right there at halftime.”

Perkins County led 21-15 at the break.
