Gothenburg native wins Chevy pickup
Cindy and Matt Tederman of Yutan won a fully loaded 2011 Chevrolet 2500HD pickup, valued at more than $37,000, through Cabela’s 50 Years 50 Trucks Sweepstakes, presented by Visa.
Cindy was the actual winner of the sweepstakes but her husband, Matt, became a winner too when Cindy told him the pickup was his birthday present.
“It was Matt’s birthday the day after we found out we had won, so I said, ‘here’s your birthday present, buddy,’” Cindy said.
Cabela’s chief executive officer Tommy Millner presented the keys to the Tedermans, who were accompanied by their three daughters, Isabella, Gabriella and Emilia, during a May 21 ceremony at the Cabela’s store in La Vista.
Cindy was one of 18 pickup winners in the first drawing of the year-long sweepstakes. Entries are still being taken to determine the winner of the 32 remaining Chevy pickups, as well as numerous other prizes.
Cindy and Matt, both Gothenburg natives, said they grew up as Cabela’s customers, frequently shopping the company’s store in Kearney.
Asked how long they had been Cabela’s customers, Cindy said, “Well, we’re from Nebraska, so pretty much since birth, I think.”
“Growing up as a farm kid, I did a lot of hunting so Cabela’s was a favorite store for a long time,” Matt said.
The Tedermans camp, hunt and “do a lot of outdoor stuff. We come to Cabela’s often to get things for those trips, so this will be a good vehicle to get here,” Cindy said, gesturing to the gleaming dark blue pickup parked in front of the store for the ceremony.
Matt, who is a recreational and competitive shooter, said they didn’t realize they were even entered in the sweepstakes. Cabela’s CLUB cardholders were automatically entered every time they used their Cabela’s Visa card.
Matt’s parents, Lane and Pat Tederman of Gothenburg, were on hand to watch the presentation ceremony.
Entries in the sweepstakes, part of Cabela’s yearlong celebration of its 50th anniversary, will be accepted through the end of the year. Another drawing of 24 more winners will be held in September, followed by one truck giveaway a week for the last eight weeks of the year—32 trucks remain unclaimed.
