Brady girls handle Mustangs in three

The Eagle girls started a little sluggish Friday night, barely clicking at all in the first set.

When the gears finally grabbed, though, Brady put away the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs easily 25-19, 25-10, 25-13.

“We weren’t very precise in the first set,” said coach Lynne Johnson.

Down 18-15 in the first, Johnson called a timeout to get the girls on track.

Sophomore Megan Polt served a pair of aces and the tide turned for the rest of the match.

Johnson said aggressive serving kept the Eagles on the attack.

The girls were 69-of-73 serving with 18 total aces.

Polt finished with nine aces and 15 service points. Courtney Widick added 13 points and Dani Gutherless contributed 10 points.

Polt and Kaiti Black each had six kills on the night.

The win improves the Eagles to 17-4 heading into the Sand-hills Conference tournament this week.

Brady opened the tournament at Thedford on Tuesday against Arthur County. The SHC championship is set for approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday.
