NSAA shuffles football schedules
The C1-9 label for district football is familiar to the Gothenburg Swedes. They’ve been in that district for several years.
The C1-9 will have a whole new feel over the next two seasons, though, as the teams got a giant shuffle from the Nebraska School Activities Association.
The NSAA plans all high school football games in the state. Two-year schedules for the 2012 and 2013 seasons were released on Thursday.
Gothenburg’s Class C-1 District 9 opponents will be Chase County, Cozad, Kearney Catholic and Minden.
Cozad is the only team to carry over from the previous C1-9.
“We have not played Chase County or Kearney Catholic for a few years and now they are in our district,” said Swede head coach Craig Haake.
Non-district draws for the Swedes will be Ogallala, Mitchell, Broken Bow and Ord.
Haake said he requested Ogallala and Broken Bow but not Ord and Mitchell.
“I was hoping to avoid going to the western edge of the state but I knew being in the adjacent district that someone had to go out there,” he said. “We are not complaining. We get to see a couple new opponents so that is always interesting.”
Ainsworth and Valentine drop out of Gothenburg’s schedule.
The Swedes will open the season both of the next two years with a Week 0 game against Ogallala, meaning the team will start competition a week earlier than many schools in the state. In 2012, that date is Aug. 25.
The Week 0 game also means the Swedes have a bye week during the season. In 2010 and 2011, that open week came near the end.
For the next two years, Gothenburg will not play in Week 3. That’s Sept. 15 in 2012.
All of Gothenburg’s football games for 2012 and 2013 have been scheduled on Fridays with the exception of the Week 8 games against Kearney Catholic, which will be Thursday night.
Also, all games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. unless played in the mountain time zone when start time will be 6:30 p.m. MT.
