County approves roads department building

LEXINGTON—The Dawson County roads department will soon have shelter for two large pieces of expensive equipment.

Commissioners voted Friday to accept a bid for $41,898 from T.L. Sund Co. of Lexington to construct a building for storing two county road graders.

Roads department employees have been parking the machines on land the county owns approximately eight miles north of Lexington.

The two-stall, 40x60 aluminum-sided building on that site will allow the graders to be parked inside as well as provide room for regular maintenance and blade storage.

One other bid of $56,980 was received from Cleary Buildings of Wellfleet.

In other business, commissioners:

  • approved an annual value statement and crime report for liability insurance through Barney Insurance.
  • heard from treasurer Sharon Wood that this year’s distress warrants total more than $111,000. Distress warrants are issued for unpaid personal property taxes and are collected by the sheriff’s department.
  • approved a resolution to collect 16 tax foreclosure certificates.
