Wellness focus of 2012 GMH health fair
Health wellness is what Gothenburg Memorial Hospital officials are focusing on during this year’s health fair.
The health fair will be Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Wellness Center.
“We’re trying to get renewed interest in the fair with a wellness approach,” said human resources director Marsha Engel.
The public is invited to the event, wich includes a free brunch, from 9-11 a.m., catered by the hospital’s dietary center.
Presentations begin at 9 a.m. with local occupational therapist Alan Daup giving a talk about “Balance...It’s Not All in Your Head.”
Dr. Shannon Hoos-Thompson of Kearney will speak about hypertension at 10 a.m.
At 11 a.m., Buffalo County Extension educator Carol Schwarz will lead the audience through “Walk Nebraska,” where she will show how to take virtual walks through the state.
An Air Care helicopter, from Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, will be on display from 10 a.m.-noon, weather permitting.
In addition to presentations, Engel said exhibitors will be set up in the Wellness Center. Blood pressure screenings and other checks will be offered.
Participants in GMH’s blood draw are also encouraged to pick up their results at the fair.
The public can still sign up for blood draws. They are offered this week from 6:30-9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 7-10 a.m. Saturday.
A chemistry profile plus lipid panel is $35, a prostate cancer screening test for $20, a thyroid stimulating hormone test for $20, a test of vitamin D levels for $35 and a cardiac CRP test for $20.
