Police, and other city officials, are still scratching their heads about the theft of copper and brass from equipment stored in a city yard.

City electrical crew foreman Mike Libich estimated the theft of components and damage at $50,448. Of that amount, about $44,000 is in damage to electrical components from which copper and brass were removed.

Bruce Clymer, city administrator, said that a surveillance camera had captured a couple of people in the area—east and south of the wastewater treatment plant—but their faces were not visible.

The city crew rebuilt a barbed-wire fence that surrounds the area and have moved other property away from the fence. Clymer said they plan to secure the area better.
