Organization also celebrates National FFA Week

Several members of the Gothenburg FFA chapter qualified for state after competing in District Career Development events on Feb. 13 in North Platte.

Those receiving a first or second place will compete at the state convention which is April 3-5 in Lincoln.

Results were:

State FFA degree finalists—Morgan Kowalewski, Amanda Larson, Maddy Costello, Preston Franzen, Bailey Gibbens, Logan Sheets, Tyler Block, Kaylee Beyea

In conjunction with National FFA Week, Feb. 18-22, the local chapter sponsored their own activities.

The first event was an all-night lock-in Feb. 6-17 to which members and interested eighth graders were invited.

There, students learned more about FFA, the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute and a chance to interact with past and present state FFA officers.

Some of the activities during the night included movies, FFA promotional activities and games.

Throughout the week, FFA’ers gave treats to students and teachers, asked trivia questions and awarded prizes, presented parliamentary procedure sessions to sixth graders, were interviewed by a radio station and celebrated Greenhand Day (when the hands of freshmen members are painted green) and sponsored a blood drive.

A community pork luncheon was re-scheduled for noon on Monday, March 18, because of a snowstorm.
