Brady senior Sierra Quadhamer will make her second trip to the Nebraska State Speech Championships in Kearney on Friday after qualifying during the D1-5 district meet at Eustis-Farnam last week.

Quadhamer placed first in oral interpretation of poetry with her selections about the bond between a mother and a daughter.

She also placed third with her serious prose cutting titled, “Intimate Terrorism,” a non-fiction account of domestic abuse.

“Sierra has been working tirelessly all year to perfect both of these speeches,” said coach Brian Fleming. “She has been a great asset to our team and will leave a legacy among the underclassmen.”

Quadhamer placed fourth at state in poetry her sophomore year.

Fellow Eagle speaker Donnie Trisdale finished just outside the state qualifiers in entertainment speaking.

“Donnie has a natural stage presence and could sell a lemon to a llama if it gave him eight minutes of his time,” Fleming said. “I have high hopes for Donnie’s potential for state next year in both entertainment and possibly humorous.”

Brady finished seventh as a team among nine schools in the district. Bertrand earned the district title with 122 points, followed by Callaway with 102.

Quadhamer’s first round of the Class D-1 state speech meet begins at 9:30 a.m. with her second round at 12:30 p.m.
