Weather, lack of experience hamper Swede golf team at NP
NORTH PLATTE—Not only has Mother Nature not cooperated during the last three weeks of practice for the young Swede golf team but she didn’t do Gothenburg any favors during the North Platte Invite at Iron Eagle on Friday.
Bitter cold and inexperience both hampered the Swedes, most of which played their first 18-hole round in competition.
“We’ve never played particularly well at North Platte,” said coach Don Graham. “It’s the first meet of the year and there are trees that we’re not used to. It was a bit of a struggle but the kids are still working hard to get better.”
Gothenburg finished eighth of 10 teams with a combined score of 422.
North Platte took top team honors with 332 and individual champion Cameron Bargell leading the way with a 75.
Adam Speck carded Gothenburg’s low score with 48 on the front and 53 on the back for 101.
The Swedes will host Lexington at Wild Horse on Thursday in dual action. Tee time is 4 p.m.
“The 10-day forecast looks a little more favorable for golf,” Graham said. “Hopefully that will help us out a little.”
