Two injured in Monday collision

Rescuers on site: A couple from Brady were injured Monday afternoon during a collision at the corner of 12th Street and Avenue L. Richard Hansen, 70, and 65-year-old Lynna Hansen were taken by ambulance to Gothenburg Memorial Hospital. Richard was later airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney and Lynna was taken there by ambulance. Police officer Jill McCandless said the accident happend around 1:20 p.m. when a 2008 Smart Car Richard was driving failed to yield right of way and was struck by a 2012 Chevy pickup driven by 91-year-old Alvin Geiken of Gothenburg. The Hansens were eastbound on 12th Street and started to turn left onto Avenue L. Geiken was westbound on 12th Street. McCandless said the Hansens were not wearing seat belts and Lynna was ejected from the vehicle. Geiken, who was wearing a seat belt, said he was not injured. McCandless said Richard will be cited for failure to yield to right of way. Both vehicles were totalled, she said. Gothenburg Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the accident.
