Runners post season’s best times
Historically, the Gothenburg cross-country team runs faster times in the Fillmore Central Invite at Geneva, head coach Steve Reeves said.
The Swedes added to that history as seven runners from the both the boys’ and girls’ side ran their best times of the season.
It was the Swedes only meet last week and Reeves thought that everyone would run quicker.
Gothenburg took third place on the boys’ side led again by Collin Hahn with a time of 17:17, finishing in sixth place.
Milford won the boys’ division finishing four runners in the top 10.
“The key is for runners from Collin to the fourth finisher to tighten up the time differential, Reeves said.
He added they are improving all the time and that they are still young.
“If you look at the results, three of our top four runners are underclassman,” Reeves said.
On the girls’ side, Gothenburg finished in fourth place behind Malcolm, Wilber-Clatonia and St. Cecilia.
“We had three or four girls running together in this meet, who ran well,” Reeves said. “We need all of our girls to try and push in a group.”
Jaci Teahon and Sydney Gruber finished just four seconds apart. Teahon claimed 16th place with a time of 21:26, while Gruber grabbed 17th finishing in 21:30.
“This week we will continue to work on our interval training over distances and trying to improve as a group,” Reeves said.
The Swedes will run in the Minden Invite on Saturday, and the UNK Invite at Kearney next Monday.
