New theatre seats installed
Sun doors to reopen Friday.
Children and adults alike can settle into new, comfy seats at the Sun Theatre Friday. The theatre will reopen with the animated film “Free Birds” after being closed for three weeks for improvements.
An old wooden floor was refinished and new seats installed as part of the Gothenburg Community Playhouse’s “Comfort Counts” fund-raising campaign which is a part of other improvements.
New carpet was also laid and LED lights installed along aisles.
Although 279 seats were bought, Sun Theatre co-manager Jill Rubenthaler said only 260 fit so the playhouse will decide what to do with extra seats.
Thanks to generous donors, co-Sun Theatre manager Jill Rubenthaler said people are going to still see quality movies and other entertainment at the same prices.
Those prices are a bargain, when compared to other theatres, with the cost of a ticket at $5 for adults, $4 for people 55 and older and $3 for children under 12. Concessions are also reasonably priced, she said.
Rubenthaler said more projects are planned such as installing energy-efficient entryway doors and upgrading sound and lighting for live productions.
Donations are still being accepted for improvements and can be sent to Box 155, Gothenburg, NE, 69138.
“We couldn’t have done what we’ve done without the support of the community,” she said.
