Wolff gains 2103 CC alumni award
Michael Wolff of Gothenburg has received the 2013 Nebraska Community College Association Distinguished Alumni Award.
The award was presented Nov. 4 at the NCCA annual conference at Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte.
Wolff is a 2010 graduate of Central Community College-Grand Island where he received associate of applied science degrees in electronics and mechatronics as well as several other diplomas and certificates.
He decided to enroll at CCC after he was injured in an agricultural accident and the resulting physical constraints made him unable to continue operating his small agricultural and computer repair service and teaching welding at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis.
While a student at CCC, Wolff was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for students in two-year colleges, and was selected to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Nebraska Academic Team.
He helped tutor students in electronics technology classes and worked as a tutor in the academic success center. He also worked as a computer lab monitor before taking a job with the CCC media services department, where he continued to work while completing his bachelor’s degree in project management at Bellevue University.
After completing his bachelor’s degree, he accepted a job with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension in Dawson County as an Extension assistant in the Lexington office. He educates 4-H and school youth in science and technology curriculum as well as most other 4-H areas.
Wolff is a member of the board of directors of the Gothenburg Community Playhouse and the Gothenburg Historical Society. He has been a member of Lions Club International for 20 years and is a life member of the Nebraska Lions Foundation.
In 2008, he received the Pony Express Rider Award from the Gothenburg Chamber of Commerce as Volunteer of the Year.
