Car fire on cold day

LOTS OF SMOKE: Gothenburg’s volunteer fire fighters were called to a vehicle fire late Friday afternoon that destroyed a 1989 Dodge Spirit. First fire assistant Mark Ostergard said the owner of the car, Karma Bevard, said she’d put her car in the carport behind a residence at 1719 Avenue D and entered her house. Shortly afterward, Ostergard said she looked out a window and saw smoke. Ostergard said he suspects the fire started from an electrical short in the engine compartment and fortunately didn’t spread to the carport. He said it took fire fighters about 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze. Temperatures hovered in the mid 20s on Friday.
