Three place in MPCC technical skills contest

Icy roads and snow didn’t stop the ninth annual Mid-Plains Community College technical skills contest in North Platte on Monday. In fact, participation was better than ever.

“We’re really excited about the turnout,” said Lenny Hassel, MPCC career pathways coordinator. “It’s the first time we’ve ever had a triple digit number of students registered.”

A total of 109 students from 10 area high schools signed up for the contest. They competed in the areas of team building, construction, carpentry, welding, auto mechanics, drafting, electrical technology and heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R).
