Dean Jones, 77 - June 03, 2013Dean Fredrick Jones, 77, of Lake Havasu City, AZ, formerly of Hermiston, OR, and Brady, died Monday, June 3, 2013, at Los Vegas, NV.
A memorial service was conducted at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 28. Interment took place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Jones was born Oct. 14, 1935, at Hyannis, son of Ervin and Florence (Trunnell) Jones.
As a young man, he went to work for the Union Pacific Rail Road in the communications department as a lineman and radio man, eventually becoming the manager of communication of the Northwest district and one of two construction managers for UPRR.
His job took him to many locations and new homes through the years. He retired early in 1989 and went on the consult for UPRR and ran his own business in air conditioning and as a handyman in Arizona.
Jones always continued to better himself with schooling and had many interests, according to family members. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, kayaking and traveling. He also owned and flew his own airplane.
Other interests included race cars, auto mechanics, upholstery, beekeeping, welding, cooking, gardening and reading. He always took time to visit family and friends, making sure they had what was needed, family said. He generously gave of his time and of himself.
Jones was preceded in death by: his father, Ervin Jones; his mother, Florence Jones; a brother, Robert Jones; his grandparents.
Survivors include: two daughters—Barbara (James) Wilson of Milton-Freewater, OR, and Donna (Raul) Jones-Ochoa of North Platte; a son, Michael (Marge) Jones of Pendelton, OR; two grandsons—Casey (Jessica) Jones of Portland, OR, and Ryan Ochoa of North Platte; two granddaughters—Kathern (Elliott) Kreshner of Denver, CO, and Amber Ochoa of Lincoln; two great-granddaughters—Lillian Jones and Cordila Jones; a sister, Edith Trowbridge of Montpelier, OH; four nieces—Mitchy, Kelly, Margie and Angie; numerous extended family members.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
