Lynn Giffis, 86 - August 07, 2013Verlynn “Lynn” Eileen Griffis Thunberg, 86, of Colorado, originally of Cozad, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, at Swan-Law Cascade Chapel at 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO, with an eventual internment at Ft. Logan cemetery at Denver, CO.
Thunberg was born on a farm at Cozad on March 3, 1927, to Milo and Ila (Batie) Griffis.
She attended rural school for her elementary education and graduated from Cozad High School.
Upon graduation, she then taught at several local rural schools, having as many as 32 students in eight different grades at a time.
While attending Kearney State Teachers College, she met Oscar Thunberg, who she later married on Aug. 14, 1949.
Thunberg also taught Sunday School and worked for Avon for over 15 years. She was a friendly neighbor and her friendship was treasured by many, said family.
?Her personality drew people in, making them feel very comfortable and at home while talking with her, as she was a great conversationalist and a charismatic person with a warm heart, according to family members. Her laugh and smile were contagious where family and friends enjoyed her unique, quirky, sense of humor.
She always put her family first and was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, family said.
Thunberg was preceded in death by: her parents, Milo and Ila; three brothers—Dale, Elton and Elmo.
Survivors include: her husband, Oscar, her three children—Douglas, Larry (Deborah) and Lisa (Troy); a granddaughter, Sophie Thunberg.
