Taylor was born to Andrew P. and Sophia Bergstrom Shostrom on Aug. 8, 1915, on a farm in Custer County. She attended rural elementary school at District 161, the “Shostrom School” near her home. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1933.
In 1955, she married Ralph Taylor. The couple were later divorced. She often fondly talked about the families for whom she did housekeeping during those years, the family said.
She resided at Gothenburg most of her adult life, and she fondly talked about doing housekeeping for several families during those years, family members said. For many years, she was a caretaker for her brother, and during that time she enjoyed other family members joining them for birthday dinners.
Taylor loved music and played clarinet in the Gothenburg High School band in the early 1930s. Her entire life she loved to play the piano so much that the black keys on her piano were all worn down. She enjoyed watching Husker football. She liked having a beautiful lawn and many people remember seeing her still raking leaves and sweeping her sidewalks when she was in her 90s, the family said.
She enjoyed reading and had many books. When she was no longer able to read her Bible she asked other family members to read to her.
Taylor was preceded in death by: her parents, Andrew and Sophia; her brother, Elmer; sisters—Bessie (Henry) Kuhlman and Lillian Shostrom.
Survivors include: two nephews—Willard (Marjorie) Kuhlman of Gothenburg and Brian Kuhlman of DeFuniack Springs, FL; a niece, Joan Johnson of Aurora, CO; grand-nephews—Jeff and Terry Johnson, Kirk, Phil and Daniel Kuhlman; a grandniece, Marsha Herlevi; three great-great-grand-nephews and four great-grand-nieces; numerous other relatives.
