Jean Clymer, 89 - December 11, 2013Jean Charlotte (Gustafson) Clymer, 89, of Gothenburg passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, with family at her side.
Services will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church of Gothenburg on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. with Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Interment will be at the Gaslin Cemetery at Brady.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Friday, Dec. 13, from 1 to 8 p.m. with family members present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Clymer was born April 13, 1924, at Gothenburg to Henry Andrew and Jennie Ester (Anderson) Gustafson.
She grew up and lived most of her life south of Brady where she attended Union School District 74, graduating from Brady High School, and later graduating from Kearney State College.
On June 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Louis R. Clymer. The couple resided for a year in Thedford and, after her father passed in 1949, they moved to the family farm south of Brady where they resided and farmed until retiring to Gothenburg.
Clymer and her husband were also “snowbirds” and resided at Tucson, AZ, for over 20 winters, enjoying many friendships with other retirees from different places, according to family members.
She was an elementary teacher in Lexington preceding her marriage, and over the years, taught at several one-room rural schools. She took a special interest in her pupils and enjoyed keeping in touch with many of them, family said.
Clymer was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women. She held various offices in all memberships, and for many years, she was the church organist for the Brady Methodist Church and pianist for the Sunday School when her children were small.
She was also a Cub Scouts den mother and served years as an on-site volunteer at Nebraska Girls State in the summer as well as was a representative to the Nebraska Methodist Church Conference.
Clymer enjoyed reading, playing bridge and golfing. She and her husband traveled all the states and enjoyed several trips to foreign countries.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Henry and Jennie; her husband, Louis.
Survivors include: her children—Stephen (Jolleen) Clymer of Lincoln, Mark (Sandra) Clymer of Gibbon, Janelle (Larry) Beran of Stephenville, TX, and Bruce (Lori) Clymer of Gothenburg; grandchildren—Christian (Christina) Beran of Little Elm, TX, Jameson (Amy) of Georgetown, TX, Stacy (Shane) Rockfeller of Gibbon, Michael (Heather) Beran of Stephenville, Shea (Brynn) Clymer of Austin TX, Kelsey (Chad) Ruwe, Jennie Clymer and Jill Clymer, all of Omaha, Brittany Clymer of Weymouth MA, and Josie Clymer of Ralston; great-grandchildren—Quentin, Baylee, Kreyton, Cooper, Lincoln, Isabel, Charli and Hayes.
