Dale Buss, 83 - January 03, 2014Dale H. Buss, 83, longtime resident of Deming, NM, originally of Gothenburg, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at his home.
Services will take place on Saturday Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ernie Vineyard officiating.
Buss was born April 21, 1930, at Gothenburg to Herman and Edyth Buss.
He moved to Deming in 1960 from Gothenburg, after graduating from Kearney State Teacher’s College, and began his career in education with the Deming Public Schools.
Buss was employed as a physical education teacher at the junior high level and later became the school counselor. At the time of his retirement in 1992, he was serving as principal of the Deming Junior High School.
He was a member of A.R.C. in which he served as president for three years, and also a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Buss enjoyed being outdoors, camping and hiking in the Gila National Forest, according to family members. He also enjoyed genealogy and was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
He was preceded in death by: his wife of 60 years, Geraldine M. Buss; parents, Herman and Edyth Buss; brother, Gerald Buss.
?Survivors include: his daughters—Vicki (Mike) Hofacket of Deming and Lori Lynn Buss of Las Cruces; a brother, Randy (Sue) Buss of Kearney; four grandchildren—Leandra (William) Stewart, Jarod (Lani) Hofacket, Brandon (Stephanie) Hofacket and Adriana (Justin) Hofacket-Allen; nine great-grandchildren—Charlie Hofacket, Wren Hofacket, Meredith Allen, Sam Hofacket, Brooklyn Allen, Jack Hofacket, Ender Hofacket, Aerona Stewart and Calum Stewart; sister-in-law, Elizabeth May of Phoenix, AZ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Dale Buss Special Education Scholarship, c/o First New Mexico Bank, P.O. Box 511, Deming, NM 88031.
