Duane Oliver, 71 - May 26, 2014Duane Martin Oliver, 71, of Gothenburg died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 28, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Interment will take place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
Oliver was born Aug. 27, 1942, at Grand Island, son of Harold D. and Margaret (Hall) Oliver.
He grew up at Shelton, moved to Gothenburg while attending junior high and graduated from Gothenburg High School. He then graduated from Parks Business College and Colorado Banking School.
In 1961, he married Karen Williams at the United Methodist Church in Gothenburg.
Oliver served his country with the United States Army from 1966 to 1972.
He was employed as the vice-president of Gothenburg State Bank and was active in his community.
Oliver was a member of the Gothenburg Fire Department, Jaycees, Gothenburg Chamber of Commerce, school board, City Council, CASA Board, Gothenburg State Bank board of directors, the Senior Center governing board and the WIld Horse Golf Club board.
?He enjoyed being outdoors going hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening as well as attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and playing cards with friends, according to family members.
?Oliver was preceded in death by: his father, Harold Duane Oliver; his mother, Margaret Oliver; step-mother, Vera Oliver.
Survivors include: his wife, Karen Oliver of Gothenburg; his two sons—Darin (Kathy) Oliver of Brady and children—Bowe, Joslyn and Tessa, and Reece Oliver of Papillion and children—Regan and Dane; his daughter, Tara Oliver Larson of Anthem, AZ, and children—Tyler, Nate and Brock; sisters—Sandra Oliver Downs and Carmen Goodwin; step-sister, Joan Swenson; step-brothers—Chancy Goodwin and Stan Goodwin; numerous extended family members.
