Willard (Bill) Diehl, Jr., 82 - September 20, 2014

Willard “Bill” H. Diehl, Jr., 82, of Gothenburg died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln.
Graveside services will take place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Robert Litzenberger officiating. Inurnment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Diehl was born Nov. 1, 1931, at Brady, son of Willard and Eleanor Diehl. He grew up in Brady attending and graduating from Brady High School.
Following high school, he enlisted with the U.S. Army and served his country from 1949 to 1951.
On Nov. 22, 1951, he married Edith “DeDe” Sherman at Gothenburg.
He was employed as a sales manager for Haley’s Chevrolet, John Hurt Chevrolet and Bill Diehl Motors. He was also postmaster for the Village of Brady, where he retired after 25 years.
Diehl was a member of the American Legion and the Brady Village Board as well as the coach of Brady baseball, and ran the clock for the Brady football games.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and was an avid sports fan, according to family members.
?Diehl was preceded in death by: his parents, Willard and Eleanor; daughters—Kathy Bockus and Dee Ann Bartlett; brothers—Kenny Diehl and Jimmy Diehl; a sister, Lorraine Lawrence; grandsons—Justin Bockus, Doug Bockus and John Bockus; a granddaughter, Melissa Diehl; son-in-law, Jim Armstrong.
Survivors include: his wife, Edith “DeDe” Diehl; his sons—Scott (Pam) Diehl and Kenny (Lisa) Diehl; a brother-in-law, Don Sherman; sisters-in-law—Marjorie Lindekugel, Margaret Rubenthaler, Mimi Dodge, Karen Diehl and Carolyn Kelsey; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
