Letha LaVilla Brand, 99 - January 04, 2015

Bertha LaVilla Brand, 99, of Elwood passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at the Elwood Care Center.
Services will take place on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Elwood. Burial will be at the Elwood Cemetery.
A visitation will be conducted one hour prior to services at the church.
Brand was born Jan. 25, 1915, at Colby, KS, to Roger and Carrie (Turner) Reed. She grew up in the Smithfield/Elwood area and graduated with the Class of 1934 from Elwood High School.
On March 28, 1936, she married Ward Brand at Smithfield.
She was employed with keeping cabins at Johnson Lake for five years, then was a custodian of the United Methodist Church for 36 years.
Brand loved quilting and crocheting, making many afghans for family and friends as well as enjoying her coffee club and church circle, according to family members. She was also an avid reader and cherished time spent with family and friends.
?She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ward; her parents, Roger and Carrie; a daughter and granddaughter; a son-in-law; brother; a step-brother and three step-sisters.
?Survivors include: her four children—Eileen (Harold) Debban of Kearney, Roger (Joan) Brand of Gothenburg, Betty Gaudreault of Cozad and Marvin (Sue) Brand of Elwood; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law—Verna Carter of Kansas and Betty Brand of Utah; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Elwood and the Elwood Senior Center.
