Edwin Eloe, 38 - February 18, 2009

Edwin Kent Eloe, 38, of Hebron, IN, formerly of Gothenburg, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at his home.
Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Bethel Church in Crown Point, IN, with the Rev. Steve DeWitt officiating. Interment took place at Calumet Park Cemetery at Merrillville, IN.
Eloe’s family lived in Elwood and Gothenburg during the years of 1964 to 1977 before moving to Indiana.
He worked 15 years as a financial advisor for Ameriprise. While this job was an important focus of his life, Eloe was committed to helping those in his community, and he did so by serving as a member of the Tri-Creek School Board of Trustees. He also frequently reached out to those who were less fortunate than he, either through ministering to the needy in Gary, IN, or by creating a ministry to care for displaced evacuees of Hurricane Katrina.
He was an active member of Bethel Church in Crown Point, where he served as a deacon, a small group leader, children’s ministry volunteer and wherever he was needed. His heart for people led him to serve with honor and distinction, always placing the needs of others and his church community above his own, according to family members.
?He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and being with his dad and sons at the Eloe family farm in Nebraska as well as the outdoor activities of hunting, fishing and golfing, family members said.
?Eloe is preceded in death by: his paternal grandparents—Edwin and Evlyn (Scott) Eloe, and Ben and Agnes (Harms) Heinis.
Survivors include: his wife of eight years, Bridgett; three sons—Joshua, Ethan and Nolan; his parents, Lowell and Barb Eloe; four siblings—Lynette Eloe, Robyn (Mark) Sepko, Denise (Jack) Stewart and Tim (Becky) Eloe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the E. Kent Eloe Memorial Fund through the American Brain Tumor Association. Eloe’s story and trial with brain cancer can be read at www.eloefamily.com.
