Kay (Johnson) Christensen, 56 - February 23, 2015

Kay (Johnson) Christensen, 56, of Holdrege passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney.
A celebration of life service was conducted on Friday, Feb. 27, at the Hope Lutheran Church at rural Smithfield with the Rev. Tim Glendening officiating. Following the traditional service, cremation will take place, and a private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Christensen was born April 23, 1958, the third of four children born to Charles and Amanda (Landgren) Johnson. As a young girl, she was christened at the Westmark Evangelical Free Church north of Loomis.
She received her education from the Bertrand Community School, graduating from Bertrand High School with the Class of 1976.
Christensen then pursued her nursing credentials, receiving her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Central Community College at Kearney in 1985.
Through the years, she was employed with Phelps Memorial Health Center and Christian Homes Care Community and served as well as a private nurse in home health care.
On March 2, 1991, she was united in marriage to Kevin Christensen, and he loving accepted her two children, family members said.
Christensen and her family made their home at Holdrege. First and foremost in her life was her family, she especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren, according to family members. She was always willing to help others and planning special memories, such as a wedding or reunion, were kept close to her heart.
?Her hobbies were gardening, fishing, boating and sewing, and she was an excellent cook and baker, the family said.
Christensen was preceded in death by: her parents, Charles and Amanda Johnson; a brother, Jim Johnson.
Survivors include: her husband, Kevin Christensen of Holdrege; her son, Bodie (Tiffany) Weeder of Minden; her daughter, Kendra Johnson of Kearney; four grandchildren—Payton and Hudson Weeder and Kane and Kinlee Kolling; two brothers—Joe (Jan) Johnson and Jerry (Brenda) Johnson, all of Bertrand; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Donna Christensen of Kearney; brother-in-law, Ken (Nancy) Christensen of Gothenburg; sister-in-law, Kelli (Rick) Ackerman of Holdrege; an aunt, Verla Johnson of David City; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
A memorial has been established.
