Margaret (Peggy) Ellison, 85 - May 30, 2015

Margaret “Peggy” Eileen Sitorius Ellison, 85, of Omaha, originally of Gothenburg, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Brighton Gardens in Omaha.
Services will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church, 1401 Lake Ave., at Gothenburg on Friday, June 5, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joel Plisek officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell next to her husband, Orval.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, June 4, from 1 to 8 p.m. with family members present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg.
Ellison was born Nov. 18, 1929, on a family farm near Gothenburg to John G. and Josie E. (Nichols) Sitorius.
She attended school in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School with the Class of 1947. She then attended Central Business College in Denver, CO, graduating in nine months with a full secretarial degree.
Ellison returned to Gothenburg where she worked for a short time for the First State Bank, then began working for Gothenburg Memorial Hospital where she worked in medical records for 15 years.
On Feb. 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Orval Ellison at Gothenburg.
She was a devoted mother, family members said, and lived in Gothenburg most of her life until she became ill. She then moved to Omaha for more professional care.
Ellison was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was the secretary on the executive board. She was a devoted church worker and served in several church offices through the years including president of the UMW. She was also a past honored queen of Bethel No. 28 Job’s Daughters and a lifetime member.
She learned to play bridge and enjoyed playing with an afternoon bridge club every Monday for 20 years, and another bridge club that met in the evenings as well.
Ellison was preceded in death by: her husband, Orval Ellison; an infant daughter, Pamela; her parents, John and Josie; a sister, Shirley Bartlett; daughter-in-law, Peggy Jo Ellison.
Survivors include: her children—Alan Ellison (Nikki) of Gretna and David Ellison of Gothenburg; nine grandchildren—Tiffany, Jessy, Elissa and Landon, all of Gothenburg, Christopher of Austin, TX, Cameron and Sam, both of Omaha, Chelsea of Gretna and Brittney of Dakota Dunes, SD; 19 great-grandchildren.
