Esther Leona Hinze, 90 - July 24, 2014

Esther Leona (Stevens) Hinze, 90, of Gothenburg, went home to be with the Lord while her four sons sang “The Old Rugged Cross” on Friday evening, July 24, 2015.
Services will be conducted at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Carol Mapa officiating. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Gothenburg.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Friday, July 31, from 1 to 8 p.m. with family members present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Hinze was the third of four children born to Albert and Elizabeth (Fickenscher) Stevens on Dec. 19, 1924, on a family farm north of Gothenburg.
She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Hinze graduated from Gothenburg High School 1942, then obtained her teaching certificate and taught in country school for three years.
She married Robert OE Hinze on March 2, 1947. To this union, four sons were born.
Hinze loved to sing, “Oh Holy Night” and sang soprano in the church choir. She also loved to garden, cook and sew, according to family members. She took Thursdays off to quilt at the church and encouraged her sons and grandchildren to always love and serve the Lord as she tirelessly served the Lord.
?She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Robert “Bob” Hinze; a sister, Genevieve (Reakus) Franzen; brother, LaVern Stevens; sister-in-law, Luberta (Harvey) Harrington; brothers-in-law—Norman Mann and Kenny Bauman; her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Hinze.
Survivors include: her four sons—Steven (Shari) Hinze of North Platte, Grant (Kay) Hinze of Holdrege, Mathieu (Julie) Hinze of Lincoln and Mark (Jan) Hinze of Grand Island; 15 grandchildren—Robert (Jen) Hinze, Todd (Lori) Hinze, Michelle (Dan) Allen, Monte (Kacie) Hinze, Jaime (Joe) Burkink, Megan Hinze, Janelle Hinze, Creighton (Cassidy) Hinze, Garth (Holly) Hinze, Erin (Tim) Watson, Haley (Matt) Larson, Wilson Hinze, Tim (Alicia) Hinze, Jason Hinze and Trenton (Whitney) Hinze; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Mann Bauman of Hutchinson, KS; sister-in-law, Marian Stevens of Gothenburg; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church of Gothenburg.
