LaVada Fichtner, 86 - January 04, 2016

LaVada J. Fichtner, 86, of Gothenburg passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at Gothenburg.
Services will be conducted at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Thursday, Jan. 7, from 1 to 8 p.m. with family members present from 4 to 6 p.m.
Fichtner was born Feb. 17, 1929, at Porum, OK, the daughter of B.L. and Vera (Matthews) Lucas.
She grew up at Porum and resided at Bakersfield, CA, and Curtis. She also lived west of Maywood, McCook and Gothenburg.
Fichtner graduated from high school and attended Mary Lanning School of Nursing.
She was baptized in April of 1941 at Muskogee Central Baptist Church and confirmed on Aug. 5, 1951, at St. John’s Lutheran Church at White, NE.
On March 31, 1950, she married Lesley Leon Fichtner at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in White. To this union, four children were born.
Fichtner was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Curtis. She was also a member of the LWML and the Merry Jane’s Extension Club.
She served Hayes County as an Avon consultant for 35 years.
Fichtner enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, following their sporting events as well as watching sports on TV, according to family members.
She also loved gardening, flowers and the Huskers on television as well as attending games, the family said.
?Fichtner was preceded in death by: her husband, Lesley Leon Fichtner; her parents, Vera Lucas, Madeline Lucas and B.L. Lucas; sons—Larry and Bruce Fichtner; brothers-in-law—Allen Fichtner, Marlin Fox, Calvin Bahr, Ben Dunkin and Butch Kitchen; sister-in-law, Ruth Fichtner; brothers—John and Junior Lucas; great-grandson, Eli Jipp.
Survivors include: her son, Pastor Lesley Joe (Ann) Fichtner of Ft. Wayne, IN: her daughter, Beth (Mike) Messersmith of Gothenburg; sisters—Costella “Lou” Dunkin, Virginia “Ginny” Kitchen, Leah (Jim) Winton, Joan Fox, Eileen (Doug) Beaver and Reva Lucas; sisters-in-law—Esther Bahrand and Vivian Fichtner; nine grandchildren—Paige (Paul) Mills, Michael Messersmith, Breanne Messersmith, Patrick Messersmith, Kim (Andy) Jipp, Tracey (Dan) Tresley and Katie (Jarred) Chappell; 12 great-grandchildren—Adriana, Kysen, Keiley, Kole, Annalynne, Matthew, Faith, Joy, Brayden, Greyson, Jakoby and Karter; numerous nieces and nephews.
