Alice Sheffield, 89 - April 16, 2016

Alice Sheffield, 89, of Gothenburg, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Services took place at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. David Boyd officiating. Interment was at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
A visitation was conducted at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Thursday, April 21, from 1 to 8 p.m. with family members present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Sheffield was born March 11, 1927, at Gothenburg, daughter of William and Laura (Rosser) Garrelts.
She grew up in the Gothenburg area and graduated from Gothenburg High School. After graduation, she taught rural schools near Gothenburg.
On June 5, 1947, she married Verlo Sheffield at Gothenburg. To this union, two children were born.
Sheffield lived in Gothenburg all of her life and was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the Homestead Restaurant, and bookkeeper at the Senior Center until her retirement.
She was involved with Evening Circle and also with 4-H where she served as a leader.
?Sheffield enjoyed cooking, playing cards, entertaining and sewing, according to family members.
?She was preceded in death by: her husband, Verlo Sheffield; her parents, William and Laura; son-in-law, Gary Jacob; a grandson, Jessie Sheffield; sisters—Bernice (Stanley) Maline and Marilyn (Marce) Van Wart; a brother, Bernard (Donna) Garrelts; sister-in-law, Susan Garrelts.
Survivors include: her son, Kenny (Donna) Sheffield of Gothenburg; her daughter, Connie Jacob of Windsor, CO; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Linda (Bill) Hughes of Omaha; brother, Glenn Garrelts of Westminster, CO.
