Arlen Stringfellow, 83 - August 21, 2016

Arlen LaVoie Stringfellow 83, of El Cajon, CA, passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at the home of his daughter, Charlotte Carlson of Gothenburg.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, at the El Cajon Cemetery at El Cajon with Dr. Don Sauter officiating.
Memorial services took place at the Callaway Community Church, 705 E Stebbins St., in Callaway on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dean Haidle officiating.
Stringfellow was born May 14, 1933, at Oklahoma City, OK. He grew up in San Diego, CA, where he attended Sherman Elementary, Memorial Junior High and San Diego High School. He played guard on the varsity football team, and in 1951, the team won the CIF championship. He also attended Cuyamaca College where he obtained his AS degree in electronics.
In 1952, he married Doris Earline Rubin at San Diego. To this union, three children were born.
Stringfellow began serving with the California National Guard in 1950 and continued full time through 1972. He was a Master Sergeant/Battalion Maintenance Sergeant. He also worked for the U.S. Border Patrol as Electronic Technician Supervisor, retiring from the Border Patrol in 1991.
?He became an Elks Lodge member in 1955. He most recently served as greeter and treasurer of Elks Lodge No. 1812. He was also a trustee at Calvary Baptist Church during the 1970s.
?In 1986, he married Marilyn Theresa Azevedo. They enjoyed their retirement years with entrepreneurial jobs, traveling and being with friends and family.
?Stringfellow was preceded in death by: his wife, Marilyn in 2007; his mother, Hazel Kathrine (Rushe); step-father, Hassel Eugene Robinson.
Survivors include: his children—Kathrine (Tom) Zavodnik of Decatur, TX, Arlen (Pam) Stringfellow of Alpine, CA, and Charlotte (Lee) Carlson of Gothenburg; grandchildren—Tom (Courtney) Zavodnik, Anne (Stephen) Chaney, Joey Zavodnik, Michelle (Brian) Gibbs, Rachel (Josh) Weeden, Jessica (Chris) Bailey, Justin (Andrea) Carlson, Jonathan (Chelsea) Carlson and James (Taylan) Carlson; 19 great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 11917 Pierce Plaza, Omaha, NE 68144, in honor of his great-granddaughter Adalyn Claire Carlson who was born with Cystic Fibrosis.
