Roger Nichols, 74 - September 20, 2016

Roger Lee Nichols, 74, of Lincoln passed away at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016.
A Celebration of Life service was conducted on Monday, Sept. 26, at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home in Milford with the Rev. Dave Miller officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Blue Mound Cemetery.
Nichols was born on Oct. 5, 1941, at Gothenburg to Roy and Mabel (Buesing) Nichols, the second of three children.
He attended Gothenburg High School and graduated with the Class of 1960.
Nichols worked with his father custom harvesting starting early in Texas and working their way north to North Dakota.
His hobbies as a young man included spending time playing baseball, bowling, hunting and fishing as well as working with his dad. He spent many enjoyable times drag racing with his friends and was an above average bowler, according to family members.
He was united in marriage to Marlene Nelson on Aug. 30, 1964, at Gothenburg. To this union, two children, Steven and Stacy, were born. His wife later passed away.
On April 11, 1991, he married Orpha Carlson at Lincoln. Two additional children, Tyler and Kristi, were added to his family.
Nichols and his wife resided at Milford for a short time, while he attended Milford Technical School, graduating with a degree in refrigeration.
The couple then returned to the North Platte area, where he was employed by Hank’s Radio, TV and Appliance as a service technician. He then went to work for Consolidated Freightways for 29 years as a driver supervisor spending time in North Platte, Lincoln and the Chicago area. Upon CF’s closing, he returned to Lincoln where he was employed with the Home Depot until he entered retirement.
?He was a true handyman and enjoyed fixing things, said the family. He spent many enjoyable hours working with wood making special items for his family. He also remodeled homes.
?Later in life, he enjoyed playing cards, putting puzzles together and solving word games, family stated. He also loved watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Cubs.
His family was very special and he enjoyed coaching his children in sporting activities, and finding the time he spent with his grandchildren as a blessing, stated family.
Nichols was preceded in death by: his parents, Roy and Mabel; his first wife, Marlene; an older brother, Danny.
Survivors include; his wife, Orpha Nichols of Lincoln; a son, Steven Nichols of Lincoln; his daughter, Stacy Acklie, Ralston; step-son, Tyler Trouba of Omaha; step-daughter, Kristi Trouba of Lincoln; six grandchildren—Jackson, Harrison and Karson Acklie, Carter and Amelia Dunning and Coraline Trouba; brother and sisters-in-law—Larry (Kathleen) Nichols of Gothenburg and Connie Nichols-Johnson of Spearfish, SD; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Heart Association.
