Hugh Houchin, Jr., 72 - September 17, 2017

Hugh Harland Houchin, Jr., 72, of Bayard passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017.
Memorial services were conducted on Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Church of Christ in Bayard with the Rev. Bill Ferrero officiating. Inurnment was at the Bayard Cemetery.
Houchin was born March 26, 1945, at Norfolk, VA, to Hugh Harland Houchin, Sr. and Marjorie Irene Nies.
Through his union to Jeanne Strauss, five children were born.
He was best known to others for his passion in Christ followed closely by his passion for writing and his infectious laugh, according to family members. However, his greatest passion was for his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan and pledged his later years to their sporting events, spiritual growth and other activities.
Houchin’s dedication to the Bayard community was overwhelming, the family stated. Through his writings in the Bayard Transcript, he advocated for Bayard Public Schools and the City of Bayard, and was an active member of the Bayard Church of Christ.
?He was preceded in death by: his father, Hugh Harland Houchin, Sr.
?Survivors include: his mother, Marj Houchin of Gothenburg; his siblings—Linda (Melvin) Adams of Columbia, MO, Joyce (Bruce) Clark and Todd (LuAnn) Houchin, all of Gothenburg; his children—Kim (Brent) Burry and Shaun (Jenny) Houchin, all of Bayard, Kelly Houchin of Scottsbluff, Kari (Justin) Barber of Minneapolis, MN, and Kelsey (Skyler) Mourning of Denver, CO; 12 grandchildren; numerous extended family members.
Memorials are suggested to the Chuckwagon Church.
