Barbara Banks, 76 - December 17, 2008


Barbara L. Banks, 76, of Sterling, IL, formerly of Farnam, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at her son’s home in Sterling.
Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling. The Rev. Robert J. Hasselbring officiated the service. Interment took place at Riverside Cemetery at Sterling.
Banks was born on June 7, 1932, at Blue Hill to Albert P. and Laura (Holbein) Alber. She was a graduate of Farnam High School and attended the Sauk Valley Community College LPN program.
She was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company of Sterling and the Admiral Corporation of Dixon, IL. She was then employed for 26 years in various capacities for the former Whiteside County Nursing Home and Pleasant View Nursing Home of Morrison, IL, retiring in 1995 from the position of LPN and social worker designee.
On Dec. 17, 1953, she was united in marriage to John W. Banks, a native of Gothenburg, at Sterling.
Banks was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Sterling and a volunteer for the church’s Helping Hands Food Pantry. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, according to family members.
?She was preceded in death by: her parents, Albert and Laura; her husband, John on June 13, 2007.
?Survivors include: her daughter, Bethany (Dr. John) Lorenz of Evansville, IN; two sons—Michael (Kathy) Banks of Sterling, and Jason (Lori) Banks of New Berlin, WI; a brother, Albert W. “Bill” (June) Albert of Sterling; four grandchildren—Tracy (Mrs. Ian) Geiger, Gregory Banks, Chelsey Banks and Paul Joseph Lorenz; twin great-grandchildren—Gwendolyn and Liam Geiger.
