Alta McNish, 80 - December 17, 2008

Alta B. McNish, 80, of North Platte, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at the Great Plains Medical Center at North Platte.
Services were held Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island with the Rev. Mark Borchardt officiating. Burial took place at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Grand Island.
McNish was born Oct. 7, 1928, at Pierre, SD, the daughter of Otis and Elizabeth (Babb) King. She grew up at Wilmot, SD, and received her education from Wilmot High School, graduating in 1946.
She moved to Topeka, KS, in 1952 and was united in marriage to Elmer L. McNish, June 9, 1953, at Topeka. The couple made their home at Hiawatha, KS, before moving to Grand Island in 1971, where she has made her home since and provided daycare for 15 years.
McNish enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles, country music, watching the Royals and Cubs baseball teams, and especially being with her grandchildren, according to family members.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Elmer on Nov. 17, 2003; her parents; two brothers; and one sister.
?Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law—Mona (Mark) Lawrence of North Platte, and Beth (Mike) Tockey of Cozad; six sons and daughters-in-law—Dan (Shirley) McNish of West Hallifax, VT, Kerry (Deanette) McNish of Kearney, Mark (Carolyn) McNish of Ravenna, Bill (April) McNish of Charlestown, NH, Tom (Lisa) McNish of Hampton, and Tim McNish of Charlestown; 15 grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and 13 step great-grandchildren; four sisters and a brother-in-law—Myrna Remund of Appleton, MN, Donna DeVille of Cheyenne, WY, Shirley Thompson of O’Fallon, MO, and Barbara (Jim) Madison of Browns Valley, MN; three brothers and sisters-in-law—Leslie “Bud” Bert King of Topeka, KS, Roger (Gayle) King of Melrose, MN, and Franklin (Cele) King of Sioux Falls, SD.
Memorials are suggested to the Callahan Cancer Center of North Platte.
