Russell Wright, 90 - December 10, 2008

Russell Wright, 90, prominent Denver, CO, architect, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008.
As a Denver native, he attended West High School and in 1942, he graduated from the University of Illinois School of Architecture.
Wright was united in marriage to Eleanor Anderson, daughter of the late Fred and Esther Anderson, and sister of Harold Anderson, all of Gothenburg.
He had served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II and worked onboard the aircraft carrier Intrepid doing photographic reconnaissance. Today, the Intrepid is a military museum berthed on the west side of Manhattan in New York City.
In 1945, Wright began working with established Denver architect Roland L. Linder, with whom he later formed a partnership. Subsequently, James E. White also joined them.
Wright designed many well known buildings, including the 1968 new wing and entrance to the Denver Museum of Natural History, the Larimer County Courthouse in Fort Collins and the library for Loveland. The design of banks and hospitals was a specialty of the firm; the old Mercy Hospital was one that was familiar to many, according to family members.
?His participation in professional organizations included serving as chairman of the committee on hospitals and health for the American Institute of Architects, and as secretary/treasurer of the Colorado State Board of Examiners of Architects.
Wright was a man of many interests, an avid gardener and a lover of nature, especially that of Colorado, family members said.
Survivors include: his wife, Eleanor V. Wright of Colorado Springs; his daughters—Cheryl W. Green of New York City, Alanna Wright-Jones of Colorado Springs, Patricia Wright of Roslyn Heights, NY, and Joanne Wright Deshmuk of Sudbury, MA; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 825 East Pikes Peak, Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
