Bethel June Willis, 80, of Gothenburg, died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at North Platte.
Memorial services were held on Monday, Aug. 4, at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Matthew Groenke officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Memorial Gardens, Colorado Springs, CO.
Willis was born June 21, 1928, at Anselmo, to Eugene and Malinda (Spooner) Whipple. She grew up in the Sand Hills and Climax area and attended District 281 school.
On April 19, 1947, she was united in marriage to Marvin L. Willis, at Smith Center, KS. To this union, six sons were born.
She had lived in Colorado Springs from the early 1950’s until May of 1999, when she moved to Gothenburg. She worked for a uniform cleaning company.
Willis was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 143, the VFW of Colorado Springs and Gothenburg, and the Boy Scouts of America at Colorado Springs.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Eugene and Malinda Whipple; her husband, Marvin; a son, Harold; two brothers—Karl and Eugene “JR” Whipple.
?Survivors include: her five sons—Stanley (Martha) of Lamar, CO, Arnold and Darren, both of Gothenburg, Brian (Debra) of Colorado Springs, and Tony (Laura) of Peyton, CO; a sister, Margaret Haswell-Jersin of Gothenburg; two sisters-in-law—Margaret Whipple of Arapaho, and Lucille Whipple of Brady; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Commission for the Blind & Visually Impaired, Buffalo Bills, P.O. Box 657, Sutherland, NE 69165.
