Vivian Stevenson, 97 - July 23, 2008
Vivian R. Stevenson, 97, of Gothenburg died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Gothenburg.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, July 19, at the Cottonwood Cemetery, east of Gothenburg, with the Rev. Kirk Larson officiating. Burial also took place at the Cottonwood Cemetery.
Stevenson was born on May 2, 1911, an only child to Leon and Rose (Jorgenson) Taylor, on a family farm north of Cozad. Her father was a lay pastor at the country church located on their farm, and she had helped her father by bringing coal for burning in the church stove.
She attended rural Cozad schools and graduated from Cozad High School. While in high school, she was involved in choir and dance.
Stevenson and her friends would travel to Gothenburg football games, where she met her future husband, Robert Earl Stevenson. The couple were married at home in 1930. To this union, a son and two daughters were born. Later, she and her husband were divorced.
She raised her children and later helped raise her grandchildren. As a seamstress, she made all of her children’s clothing as well as clothing for others. She also cared for many children as a nanny.
?Stevenson was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert; her parents, Leon and Rose; a son-in-law, Jim Larson.
?Survivors include: her son, Randy Stevenson; two daughters—Roberta Larson and Sharon Stevenson; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Longterm Care Unit and the American Diabetes Association.
