Marjorie Paul, 75 - April 02, 2008


Marjorie June Paul, 75, of Gothenburg, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, after a courageous battle with chronic lung infection.
Memorial services were held on Monday, March 31, at Victory Assembly Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Mark Borchardt officiating. Inurnment will take place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at a later date.
Paul was born on June 13, 1932, to Van and Mildred (Osborne) Sandberg at Kearney.
She grew up at Axtell and Kearney and graduated in 1950 from Kearney High School, where she was active in chorus and the drama club.
On May 28, 1960, she was united in marriage to Al Paul at Minden. The couple lived at Farmington, NM, and several towns in Nebraska including Lexington and Kearney before retiring in Gothenburg.
Paul’s husband, Al, continues to live at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg, where the couple has resided since 2005.
She enjoyed antiques, reading, art, music and the Southwest, according to family members. She was a talented artist who gifted her family with many paintings.
Her professional career ended when she closed her Gothenburg antique store, Finishing Touches, however, she never gave up her passion for antiques and fine jewelry, said family members.
Achievements of her children and grandchildren made her proud and she followed their sports and activities with unfailing interest, according to family members.
Paul was preceded in death by: her parents, Van and Mildred; a step-son, Alfred P. Paul; two grandsons—Thadeus Van Meakins and Danny Ovenden; brothers-in-law—Kenneth Grass and Leonard Springer.
?Survivors include: her husband, Alfred L. Paul of Gothenburg; three sons—Eric (Sue) Van Meakins of Loveland, CO, Carl L. Meakins of Waterloo, IA, and John L. (Danita) Paul of Gothenburg; a daughter, Deborah L. (Michael) Bacon of Gothenburg; two step-daughters—Jody (Denny) Ovenden of Craig, CO, and Deborah L. Burris of Silva, NC; two Sisters—Bea Grass and Mary Jane Springer of Kearney; grandchildren—Lee (Diana) Ovenden of Ivins, UT, Kim Brock (Critt) Shook of Silva, NC, Seth (Emily) Bacon of Denver, CO, Deric (Tiffany) Meakins of Memphis, TN, Angel (David) Kwiatkowski of Fort Collins, CO, Sean Van Meakins, and Alex and Tabitha Paul of Gothenburg; great-grandchildren—Jackson and Jude Meakins of Memphis, Taylor Ovenden of Craig and Addie Ovenden of Ivins; a nephew, Jerry (Hazel) Grass of Minden; a niece, Linda (Craig) Nuttleman of Kearney.
Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Women’s Club.
