LeRoy Schuchardt, 82 - January 30, 2008

LeRoy F. Schuchardt, 82, of Cozad, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at the Cozad Community Hospital.
Rosary was recited on Friday, Jan. 25, at Christ the King Catholic Church at Cozad, and a visitation was held at Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad.
Mass of the Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Christ the King Catholic Church with the Rev. Don O’Brien as celebrant. Burial took place with military honors at the Cozad Cemetery.
Schuchardt was born April 21, 1925, at Elgin to Frank and Aleida Bryant Schuchardt. He graduated from Hemingford High School in 1943 and served in the United States Navy during World War II.
On Sept. 17, 1946, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Alfter at Sidney. The couple made their home in several Nebraska communities before moving to Cozad in 1955.
He was employed at Evans Bakery before owning and operating the Shaggy Dog Carpet Store. In the mid-1970’s, he co-owned and operated the Five Star Flooring in Gothenburg, Lexington and Cozad, retiring in 1993.
Schuchardt was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church for over 50 years and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Cozad Elks Lodge and the V.F.W.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed playing cribbage, traveling with his family and spending time with his grandchildren, according to family members.
Schuchardt was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Aleida.
Survivors include: his wife, Rosemary of Cozad; a daughter, Janelle (Wes) Matthews of Gering; three sons—John (Marion) Schuchardt of Bloomfield, NJ, Jim (Roxanne) Schuchardt of Omaha and Joe Schuchardt of Denver, CO; four grandsons—Scott, Nick, Matthew and Andrew; five great-grandchildren—Jason, Zachary, Emma, Madelyn and Lilian; a brother, Ronald (Mary Lou) Schuchardt of Salem, OR.
