Sarah Hawk, 89 - January 09, 2008


Sarah A. Hawk, 89, of Lexington, formerly of Gothenburg, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007.
Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the Berean Bible Church of Lexington, with the Rev. Glen Johnson officiating. Burial took place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Hawk was born on Oct. 28, 1918, at Bell Plains, KS, to Homer Prince Waller and Jossie Pearl Griffin.
She was united in marriage to Roy E. Bailey, who preceded her in death in 1948. She was then married to Elmer Hawk in 1961, who also preceded her in death in 1979.
Hawk received her certificate to work for geriatric care later in life and worked as a nurse’s aid in Broken Bow.
She lived in Gothenburg from 1943 to 1961. She moved to Mason City for two years, then lived in Broken Bow from 1963 to 1980. In 1980, she then moved to Lexington where she resided.
Hawk was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by: her first husband, Roy Bailey in 1948; her second husband, Elmer Hawk in 1979; infant children—Mary Alice and Randy Lee; her sons—Kenneth, Darrell, Bill and Jack Bailey; a stepson, James Hawk; brothers—T. Edward, John and Arthur Waller.
Survivors include: her son, Charles Bailey of Spring, TX; her daughters—Pearl (Leonard) Hofaker of Lexington, June (Jerry) Williams of Lincoln, and Rose (Clark) Spivey of Elwood; stepchildren—Melvina (Jim) Brown of Prole, IA, Francis Scheiff of Aurora, Deanna (Wayne) Cheek of Republic, MO, Ellen Swanson of Kearney, and Frank (Sharon) Hawk of Norwalk, IA; 25 grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 24 step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
