Jan Nielsen, 71 - December 05, 2007
Jan J. Nielsen, 71, of Eustis died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at her home southwest of Eustis.
Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Eustis with the Rev. Beverly Rautenberg-Panko officiating. A private family burial took place prior to services at the Fairview Cemetery south of Cozad.
Nielsen was born on Jan. 23, 1936, at rural Cozad, to Paul and Vilda (Andersen) Gruber.
She graduated from Cozad High School in 1953 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. After college, she moved to Denver, CO, where she taught school for one year.
On Aug. 23, 1958, she was united in marriage to Don Nielsen at Cozad. The couple made their home at Cozad until the spring of 1959, when they moved to a site southwest of Eustis to farm and ranch.
Nielsen was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Eustis where she played the organ for many years as well as taught Sunday school. She was also a member and song leader in 4-H club.
?She enjoyed gardening, canning food and baking, according to family members.
?Nielsen was preceded in death by: her husband, Don in 2005; her parents, Paul and Vilda; stepmother, Mildred Grothe.
?Survivors include: a son, Scott (Sue) Nielsen of Eustis; a daughter, Paula (Dirk) Gage of Overland Park, KS; brother, Don (Shirley) Gruber of Mesa, AZ; brother-in-law, Greg (Wanda) Nielsen of Valentine; three sisters-in-law—Beverly (Don) Soller and Vicky (Doug) Peterson, all of Gothenburg, and Bonnie (Stan) DeBoer of Smithfield; seven grandchildren—Brittany, Adelynn and Garhett Nielsen, Evan, Alexanne, Alaura and Emmaellese Gage.
