Mark Lloyd Miller, 97, of North Platte, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at Linden Court.
Services were held on Friday, April 20, at the Maxwell First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Allen officiating. Burial was at Plainview Cemetery at Maxwell.
Miller was born in the Sandhills, 18 miles north of Brady, to Benton and Estella Pitts Miller, on March 6, 1910. He lived and went to school in that area until 1926 when his family moved to Brady.
While at Brady, he rode a horse for nine miles to high school through the 11th grade. In 1928, he went to state with his basketball team for Brady. In 1929, the family moved two miles southwest of Maxwell.
He was united in marriage to Blanche Irene Jobe at Kearney, on Oct. 1, 1930. The couple lived in the Maxwell area and worked on the family farm until 1935, and then moved to a farm five and one-half miles southwest of Maxwell, where he farmed and ranched for himself until 1975. His wife died Sept. 11, 1972.
Miller married Nira Hall in 1973 at Gothenburg. He retired in 1982 and moved to North Platte. The couple spent 18 years during the winter season in Casa Grande, AZ. His wife died in 1993.
He was united in marriage to Martha Jane Wilson Keller on March 22, 1994.
Miller had accepted Christ into his life at 16 and joined the Maxwell Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He also served as a livestock 4-H leader for over 25 years and on the District 118 school board for 15 years, the Nebraska Herford Association Board for eight years, and in 1963, he went as a delegate for the Farmers and Ranchers of Nebraska to the South American countries. He also sold Herford bulls all over the country.
?He was preceded in death by: his parents; two infant grandchildren—Sheryl Sue Edson and Jeffrey Geyer; a grandson, Eugene Geyer; two sisters—Dorothy Legler and Beuleh Helberg; two step-children—Holly Houston and Jamey Cartwright.
Survivors include: his wife, Martha Jane of North Platte; four sons—Darold (Ilene) Miller, Clinton (Jane) Miller, Delmar (Hazel) Miller, all of the Maxwell and North Platte areas, and Loren (Mary Ellen) Miller of Cochrane, Alberta Canada; three daughters—Pauline (Dick) Edson of Gothenburg, Shirley (Bill) Nuttall of Magnolia, TX, and Vernita (Joe) Yanken of Dublin, GA; a sister, Marjorie Gamble of North Platte; two brothers—Arthur (Bethel) Miller of Oshkosh and Calvin (Mary Lou) Miller of Gothenburg; 27 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
