Rodger Haynes, 63 - January 24, 2007


Rodger Nelson Haynes, 63, of Gothenburg, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at Hilltop Estates at Gothenburg.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein, P.M.A., officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
Haynes was born on Aug. 28, 1943, at Gothenburg to Floyd J. and Ellen H. (Wilson) Haynes. He was raised in Gothenburg and graduated with the class of 1962.
While in school at Gothenburg, he excelled in track, holding all three of the sprint records for over 30 years. He still holds the 220 sprint record to this day.
?After graduating from high school, he attended three years of college, one year at Wartburg College and two years at Kearney State College where he was also on the track team.
?On Oct. 8, 1965, he married Adelle Aden at the First Lutheran Church of Kearney. To this union, three children were born—Kirk, Heather and Nathan.
?Haynes and his wife returned to Gothenburg in 1966 where he worked for the Nelms/Dudley Veterinary Clinic until he began farming with his father-in-law in 1971.
?He enjoyed the outdoors with family as well as hunting, hiking and horses, according to family members.
?Haynes was preceded in death by: his parents, Floyd and Ellen; one brother, Dean; a brother-in-law, Bob Beardsley.
?Survivors include: his wife of 41 years, Adelle; two sons—Kirk (Chris) Haynes of Gothenburg and Nathan Haynes of Lincoln; a daughter, Heather (Troy) Franzen of Gothenburg; brother, Buster (Lorraine) Haynes of North Platte; sister, Betty Beardsley of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren—Zac Franzen, Makayla Franzen, Tylyn Haynes and Quinn Haynes; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church, Central Plains Hospice and the Durham Cancer Research Center of Omaha.
